So… yeah, I haven’t posted anything in forever, but I’ve been so extremely busy that I don’t really sleep much anymore except on the weekends and my hair is going gray pretty fast. Which isn’t a bad thing… I would love to have long, gray hair. Anyway, I did this doodle the other day in between things of a cartoon British thug that I thought I’d share.

Apparently, Jackie Gleason (yes, that Jackie Gleason) was quite curious about the occult. The University of Miami has an exhibit of The Jackie Gleason Collection of Books. It includes approximately 1,700 volumes of books, journals, pamphlets, and publications in the field of parapsychology. The collection offers materials on such topics as: witchcraft, folklore, extrasensory perception (ESP), unidentified flying objects (UFOs), reincarnation, mysticism, spiritualism, mental telepathy, the occult, ghosts, clairvoyance, cosmology, demons, hypnosis, life after death, mediums, psychical research, voodooism, and others.

I’ve featured Eastern European art on here before and there’s just something about it, especially the communist-influenced art that’s so engaging and wonderful. Anyway, here’s a great blog that features (just as it says on the tin) a Soviet poster a day with a detailed explanation. Click, bookmark. Great stuff.

I like breaking shit. Everyone likes breaking shit every now and again. Especially glass. Well, what if you put porcelain figures in a dark room and hooked up a strobe light and a high speed camera to capture these porcelain beauties in mid-destruction? Just so you don’t have to smash yours / your wife’s / your mom’s porcelain figures, photographer Mark Klimas has done it for you. And the results are spectacular.

It used to be, way back when cameras were barely out of their infancy that instead of the goofy blue/gray marble swirl or the fake autumn scene crap you get now at Sears, the best family/romantic photo prop was the smiling paper moon. Well, here’s a great Flickr photo set of a whole bunch of these great photos from years gone by.

Oh crap, look at the time– it’s almost Tuesday and I haven’t put up a Monday Photoblogging entry. I can’t forget 2 weeks in a row. Anyway, since it’s almost Tuesday, Sept. 11, here’s a photo of a weird abstract painting I did on Sept. 11, 2001. Why? Dunno… I was just sitting there, engrossed in the 24 hour news coverage and drew this weird fractal thing. I sort of like it even if you don’t.

Every year, the American Film Institute rolls out its list of the 100 greatest movies of all time, which is pretty much the same list every time, slightly shaken up and re-arranged. Every minute, a list of the 10 greatest movies ever is published on the Internet and much arguing ensues. And so because… well, just because, here’s my list of the 100 or so greatest movies ever. Why be so stodgy and limit yourself to 100 exactly? There are so many good ones.
I sort of wish the list wasn’t so weighted towards modern times, but it is. The fact is, there were probably as many movies made just last week than all of 1920-1930, so there’s more to choose from. And there are ones in the 90’s that may not be on anyone else’s list, but I was very impressionable right there at the end of high school. And it never dawned on me until now just how many incredible movies were made in the 70s. Especially 1975 seemed to be a good year for movies. So here it is… the list…
